Both the 7120 and 8120 models have the motorized tilt screen. In fact, they are identical units except that the 8120 has Bluetooth built-in. However, I have found that the anti-glare screen on the 5120 works quite well. I can see the screen clearly even with the t-tops off and in bright Florida sunshine. One of the reasons I went with the 5120 rather than one of the others (other than cost) was the fact that it doesn't have a motorized screen - I can insert a disc without waiting for the screen to move and there's less to break down. BTW, the 8120 has been dropped from the Kenwood website so availability may be a problem.

Another consideration for Firebird owners is that the Kenwood and Pioneer units have selectable display colors (so you can match the red dash) - the Alpine and JVC don't.

The JVC seems like a really nice unit with some features that the others don't have such as an SD slot for music and lane positioning in the GPS.

I haven't noticed that. In fact, I have the opposite problem - I always find the nav screen doesn't dim at night when I want it to. I haven't tried switching to the nav screen first and then turning on the lights but I'll try that later today.

WhiteBird00 do you have any pictures of what your looks like installed (night and day pictures). Im thinking about getting the Kenwood 5120 and wanted to see how close the lights match.

I posted pictures of both the Pioneer Avic-D3 I originally had and the Kenwood DNX-5120 I have now in this thread. (Ignore the alignment of the bezel and HU in the Kenwood photo - I've fixed it to line up properly.)

I don't have any photos of the unit at night. But it has 5-bit (0-31) RGB settings so you can choose any of 32K colors - certainly enough to closely match any dash color. For example, the Firebird dash isn't exactly red and it certainly isn't amber but I found that setting red to 28, green to 2, and blue to 0 produced a color that matches beautifully. You can save your color settings to one of three presets that are stored in static memory.
