Rear hatch problem

Rear hatch problem My rear hatch button doesn't work anymore unless the engine is "off". I made sure the E-brake was all the way on and still didn't work. Then I tried the remote entry button for the hatch and it didn't work. Only problem is when the motor is on. I've made no electical mods, Help please. Thanks

Re: Rear hatch problem If its an auto, it has to be in Park. I don't know if the manual has something similar. Either way, this "switch" may have failed. I dont know where it is exactly, but you can probably find it in a service manual.

Re: Rear hatch problem Yeah for manuals you have to pull the E-break but that doesn't work either anymore. It's still under warrenty but I'm sure it'll just be a big pain, thanks though. 
Re: Rear hatch problem The relay that is activated by when your ebrake is engaged is probably bad. Theres a different relay for when the engine is off. Your car is a 2002 isnt it still under warranty?

Re: Rear hatch problem I seem to be having a similar problem in my m6 and I thought the brake light not activiating when the brake is on may have something to do with it. I know the bulb is good because when I first fire it up all the lights turn on for a sec and the brake light is on with the other lights. Which relay should I check? Under the hood? Mine is a 99 so if I do not have to take it to the dealers it would be better
