Default Sub box question

What would be the sound difference between a sub box built for two subs and one large open space behind versus a box built with seperate compartments for each sub? I haev someone hear trying to say that there would be no difference, yet I have ben taught that with out seperate areas sound cancelling occurs.

Cancellation cannot accur unless you reverse the polarity on one of the driver.

On paper it should sound the same. And in my experience with most boxes it will. The only real advantage of having 2 seperate chambers is if one sub blows you can continue to play the other. Or if your looking for a higher output setting and want to run one amp to each sub its better for the subs. Because if you run 2 amps of 2 subs in the same enclosure while they may look like they are moving at the same time they actually are a few milliseconds behind one another. And that can cause one sub pushing while another is pulling. Doing that in the same air space will cause the drivers to be over stressed and eventually with blow them.

Not to mention you must have both gains set to output the EXACT same amount of power and both amps must be crossed over at the EXACT same spot.

THX for the advice. I have just learned from the boys at Boston that my convertibe top is a major downfall to bass. They said that it will absorb insted of reflecting it. I never really thought if that. With the two new amps and sealing the box even better, it sure does hit hella hard though. I'm happy. Now to get tweeter pods and bring the mids and highs up to higher specs.
