cigarette lighter
My lighter quit working so now my radar detector does not work, it keeps blowing fuses. The stock is 25A and I am up to 50A just to see if it blows. Is there a ground I should look for, or a connection I need to clean?

Whoa! Putting in higher amperage fuses is NOT a good idea. If fuses are blowing is it more than likely due to a short in the wiring or the accesory that you are powering. Keep puting in higher amp fuses and you'll melt your wiring
Disconnect your rader detector, and see if it still blows fuses, then check the socket and the wiring and see if you can find what's making it do that.
When did this start happening? Did you change anything or do any work on the area? Also wires being pinched together enough can cause them to short - you could check for that, too.
Good luck

Re: cigarette lighter
It just started doing this yesterday. I only put higher amp fuses in to see if it would blow them and it did. It blows the fuses as soon as I hook up the radar. I have torn apart the radar and everything checks out okay. I didn't know if someone had this problem or not. If not I will look into it but not until my day off, whenever that is.

Re: cigarette lighter
stupid question.....have you tried using the cigarette lighter? if it still blows you have a problem in the wiring to the socket, if it doesn't blow,..but it does with the radar detector problem is the radar
