Default New idea on the start button mod?

I had an idea running through my head that may have already been visited here but thought I would throw it out there anyway.

Usually the S2000 start button mod(whether you think it's too ricey or not) still requires a turn of the key before pushing the button. Still kinda cool to me but much less affective for the overall functionality or justification of doing the mod because instead of just finishing the key turn you now have an extra step to push the button.

Here's what I'm thinking:

Wire in a switch (use an airplane style flip up and then switch on type) that makes the connection of the key being in the "on" position. This way you could just leave the key in and turned to on. So, when you get in the car, you flip the switch and hit the button.

Then, when your done, just flip the switch off. (I suggested the airplane style 2 motion switch because you don't want someone turning it off during your 75 MPH cruise down thei interstate). You'll still be able to activate the alarm and lock the doors because the car will think the key is off once the switch is deactivated.

There may be problems with this because I don't know all that much about how our cars are wired. Is there more than on wire that is activated when the key is switched to on?

Any suggestions or problems with this setup up would be appreciated. Please, if you think it's ricey, I don't want to know. I'm asking about the technical side of this, not whether you like it or not.

That is doable but poses a few problems. If someone breaks into your car they will be able to deactivate any aftermarket alarm you might have. Also you will have to bypass the VATS system built into your key. When you bypass the VATS I am pretty sure that is the only starter interupt the car has from factory so that will no longer work. Meanind someone can steal your car they will just have to drive off with the alarm sounding. You will have to a few relays to power up everything the key does...ignition and accessory then the starter which the button will activate. Now if you do not mind the downsides to this it is very possible and not at all hard to do. There is possibly another option. The new Mercedes uses a transponder and a pushbutton. When someone is carring the transponder close enough to the car it automatically unlocks the vechicle and activates the ignition then a button is pushed to start the car. I am considering doing this to my vechicles if I can find a aftermarket transponder but it can be done manually with an aftermarket alarm also.

Yeah, I understand the security issue. This wouldn't be an all the time mod. You could also put in a hidden switch or something to make it a bit harder.

Don't corvette's have that option? where the key fob auto unlocks the car when you come near it?
Have that activate your switch, then the button to start, that would be kick ***.

Yeah, we were discussing that on another board. However, I would think that the Corvette fob doesn't send out a constant signal that would always keep the ignition in the "on" position. There would have to be some sort of delay in the shutoff.

Also, the passive/active switch that is on the vette remotes to activate or turn off the proximity signal would have to be in the car or you would have to leave it running until you were about 20 feet away.

I have a corvette and yes it has a transponder style remote. I also am pretty sure I have a way to make it work. Still messing with it on paper before I dig into the car

Actually it could probably be done because you need to bypass the VATS system to put a remote starter in a Fbody. I dont see why you couldnt some how hook up the VATS bypass to the switch in your car, but your still going to need to put the key in the ignition to unlock the steering column, and you wont be able to move the car with out the key in the ignition. Kinda seems like a waste if you ask me.

It can be done for sure. VATS is a very easy bypass. Steering lock is also bypassable. As for a waste of time....I think anything that challanges the mind is never a waste of time.

The VATS bypass is extremely simple, most remote start units use your vallet key for this. The steering lock is a bit trickier, but can be done as well. With a transponder activated switch this should be very doable. I'm intersted to see how this turns out.

you could take out the ring for the steering lock and grind off the tabs that lock it possibly,
