Dual Batteries

Dual Batteries
I'm thinking of adding another 200 watt 4 channel, to my 500 watt 2 channel, and was wondering if anyone had a wiring diagram, or where to look for one showing dual batteries. With one at the back of the car on the side of the truck with two amps and a cap wired in. Catch: i also need the diagram of how to wire the battiers to where the both charge when the ignition is at run, and only the back one gives power if the key is in acc. TIA if you can find this.. TIA!

Re: Dual Batteries
The only time someone in your situation needs a second battery is if you spend ALOT of time with the stereo and the car off. And if you are doing this it is better to change to an Optima yellow top battery that is made to deep cycle and has alot of reserve time. Andy is right about the your alternator. It will get torn up. But if you really want to do this you can use either a battery isolator or a large relay. When you purchase one of these it should come with wiring information.

Re: Dual Batteries
eatrice is right on the money about what pieces to use & the literature they come with to make the install a snap. While I know in theory the stock alternator might not like the second battery; In my 98 ta I was running two yellow tops, one under the hood, one in the back for a little over two years on the stock alternator. I had the second battery hooked up just using wire and two breakers for safety; I stepped up the grounds at both batteries and never had any problems. just a little fyi
