I have learned you still have to let somebody run in front of you and have your detector go off when the guy in front gets checked. If you are running by yourself they will instant-on you and all the detector will do is let you know you just got a ticket.

I have a Passport 8500x50 blue display and it the best one I have had but no RD will save you 100% of the time.

Best out radar out there IMO, is the Passport 9500i. That thing is the ****. Tells you red light cameras, all bands of radar, lazer, it actually even tracks your speed by GPS and will tell you the actual speed that you were clocked by the radar gun, not the made up speed, or visual speed. It is pricey but it is a goodie.

SOM Is right about not leading the pack. You always want to have somebody in front of you for instant on and laser. Laser is tough to stop, unless you are jamming it. The blinder M22 is the best for that from what I've heard, never talked to anyone directly who has used it.
Anybody try Trapster on their Iphone? I think that is an amazing tool, do a google search on it, and if you have an iphone and don't use trapster, you need to start now!

you might want to look into putting some of that laser veil stuff on your front headlights/foglights (and plate if you have one on).

i got popped coming around a corner going WOT with laser. cop heard me coming and had the laser aimed. when he triggered the laser, my detector went off, but he had an instant lock and i had no time to slow down.

I have heard that same thing. The only thing to protect against laser is blinder M22 jammer or don't lead the pack. Laser is tough to beat, if you get shot, or you pick it up on your detector you are usually nailed.

i just googled that and as it turns out, they (mythbusters) didn't use laser veil or even laser shield, so could you show me anything that proves laser veil doesn't work? (i'd love to scrape that **** off my headlights)

check out http://guysoflidar.com

basically just a couple of guys with radar/lidar guns testing out various radar/lidar detectors and jammers. they post up all their methods/numbers. their tests (as well as a bunch of other tests/reviews i've looked over in the last 2 years as a skeptic) show laser veil to significantly reduce the range of the lidar guns.

I have a Belltronics 994....got it from Abes or Maine...google it, it was cheapest there.

Its awesome and Ive had it a couple years now. Works great for K and Ka bands...but with instant on or a laser your F'd whether you have a detector or not.

Ive had 3 of the cheaper Cobra detectors and they are TRASH compared to this thing...just like everything else, it you want a GOOD one spend the money up front!!

Yea, I suppose you can do that, but then you just ruined a good cord. I got my GTP hardwired, & I use the cig lighter cord that came with the RD in the camaro.

i have the bel precision express 936. Thing is great. accurate. It has paid for itself over and over.

Example. on PA turnpike coming around a long corner, it picked up the radar 1 mile in advanced. So Bel's are good ones too. But the passports 9500i & ix and val. are the best.

Had a V1 myself and it paid for itself about 3 times over. Paid $355 for it 4 years ago on Ebay.

Quick story: It once saved me where any other radar detector would have failed. I was in a street race (more so just playing games) with a RSX about 3 years ago and I knew I was approaching one of those speed calculators on the side of the street that tells you how fast you are going and what the speed limit is. Radar detector went off as usual, and after about 2 seconds, it makes the distinct tone and flashes up a #2 letting me know there is something else up there shooting a K-band. I slow down and the RSX keeps on (typical ricer flyby) and he gets popped and probably got a handsome ticket

Dont buy a cheap one?

My friends 400 dollar escort is giving more false alarms, than my $90 cobra..

My $90 cobra, picked up a cop doing radar over 1/2 a mile before I could even see the cop...(maybe it was almost a mile, from where the cop was and the initail point I heard the detector going off)

I think, YOU yourself have to be alert and a radar will just help those hidden corners, and you're all good..

No complanits here with my "cheap" detector..
