Why would you? 6x9s are a crappy format.

IMO, if you're going to go through the trouble to make 6x9s fit why not go with 8s instead.
Or better yet just buy some quality 6.5s!

Forget about putting anything that produces low frequencies in that flimsy plastic panel. Improving sound quality doesn't mean adding bigger speakers, it means adding the right speakers.

I think you're getting the sail panel speaker location(rear seat area) mixed up with the rear hatch speaker location.

IMO, the hatch speakers are not even worth replacing!

Indeed. If you put those in the back anyway, it will drowned out the front and ultimately sounds like ****.

damn, my bad, I have responded to so many threads regarding adding 6x9s to the hatch panels that when I seen 6x9s in the topic I just assumed it was another one of those.

Come on guys! Every time I see one of these "can I install 6x9 speakers?" threads, I offer to sell them my old 8-track player (because 6x9 speakers and 8-tracks are from the same generation and have about the same level of performance). But if you guys keep telling them not to use 6x9 speakers, I may never get rid of this 8-track player!

Oval speakers haven't been used in f-bodies since the third generation (84-92) models. The fourth generation hatch area speaker grille is oval but it covers a 4" round speaker (plus a separate tweeter in Firebirds).

I was including the fifth generation in that comment. The Boston Acoustics premium sound system in the 2010 Camaro is a 9-speaker system - none of them oval.

There has been some chatter on the web about 6x9 speakers in the parcel shelf like the old days but that wasn't what was in the model I saw at the auto show.
