JL Audio is a great brand with good support, but they can be beat, both on overall performance, and on value.

OK, I didn't read all those posts. But I will say this isn't exactly a car audio forum so not everyone here is as knowledgeable as others who are more into car audio. Some are but anyway....Fi is far superior to Alpine and was my favorite sub I ever owned. I had a 12" Fi Q sealed and loved it. But, I would have loved to see what it could have done in a ported box. But, it's hard to fit something like that in our cars and it not look stupid. So I vote for Fi.

Alpine speakers all the way, great sound and they handle power really well. I had two Apline 1242D with the alpine PDX1.1000 amp. Those things slammed in the back of my Camaro. Hit 133.8 with the amp half way up. Which is really loud. I never got to turn the amp up. But then again I did not want to go deaf.

Also, the Image Dynamics IDQ 10, Or IDMAX10 both would work really good!

I have an IDQ getting 400w and it sounds amazing. I've never really let it get too crazy.

Have a look at Stereo Integrity (SI). They make some amazing subs for quite a good price.

The SI Mag is more of an SPL sub if I remember correctly.

Edit: They're selling it as SQL - compromise between SPL and SQ. I haven't heard it. I dunno. Maybe it does sound good.

I own two 12" Type Rs very nice subs with a good amp. Very tough subs. but 2 type Rs will give you lot of bass. but RE's are INSANE. If you can afford RE's go for them but Type R are good on the wallet.
My setup in my 92 Camaro is 2 Type R's powered by a Lanzer Opti 500X2 500rms per channel .

I call bullshit on the alpine. It's a cheap *** sub with an expensive mark up. Fi is the way to go. Re's old stuff was great, and then they were bought out by US Amps and the designer went and started Fi.

It, like all XBL^2 subs, sound amazing. Very similar to the old Adire Brahma and Tumult. Closer though to the CSS SDX15 or the TC LMS Ultra, though they use different technologies for linearity. I've owned and installed most of the ones i've mentioned here, all would be better choices than the Type-R.

SDX15 and LMS Ultra are in totally different leagues. I tried to get the Ultra for my HT but by that point they had been getting rare and MSRP had been raised :/ I have a lowly Dayton Quatro 15" right now.

LMS Ultra does work in small boxes, especially for what it's capable of, though. It should actually be good in a car.
