Default Need help with JL system

I'm terrible with electric. I can wire in a system and match up amperage but I've never understood what Ohms are. So, what I'm wanting to do is hook my 02 Camaro SS with a complete JL audio system. I want it all JL from the 1.0 din to the speakers to the subs and amp. Would someone mind helping me by suggesting the equipment I'll need to be show worthy but not cost me an arm and a leg. I'll be using the tripple 10inch sub enclosure by subthump.com Here's the link.

http://subthump.com/acamarottop.htm

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sorry, but you kind of contradicted yourself. You want a "show worthy" system from a company that is expensive/overpriced which adds even more to the cost but don't want it to cost "an arm and a leg". Hard order to come up with.
Replacing everything in the car with decent quality equipment is not cheap. Neither is a top notch install unless you do it yourself and then the question is....is it show worthy? I guess that would depend on what you consider show worthy.
What kind of budget are you working with and what kind of performance are you trying to achieve??

I suggest you go to a JL dealer and talk it out with a sales rep.

I suggest you rethink your idea of going all JL audio. Frankly, it's a stupid idea.

I always found that the average consumer doesn't notice a HUGE difference in speakers like JL compared to a less expensive brand like infinity. Honestly, maby i just dont have the ear to hear the difference but ive hear JL speakers vs my Infinity and i wasn't impressed for the money. Remember, if your just getting the speakers to say "Hey! I have a JL audio system in my car" you cant see your speakers, there covered.

going JL is not a "stupid" idea, going JL on a budget however... is.

by the way, it's difficult to tell you what to go with when we don't have a budget from your end. some people's idea of cheap is like 250 bucks, while others want to spend 1200 for a complete "budget" system. i have roughly 1500 invested in my own stereo: head unit, front components, rear coaxials, 4 way amp, mono block amp, 10" sub in a fiberglass stealth box, assorted wiring... another huge factor is what kind of music you listen to... are you going for lots of bass? just loud in general? high quality sound? no one can help you until you tell us more specifically what youre looking for

No, it is a stupid idea. JL is a good company, but they do not have the best anything, AND they are expensive. There is no good reason to use them. The only people who would suggest such a thing have not done the research.

Name any JL Audio product and I can name you multiple products from other companies that are either just as good for less, or better for the same money (or possibly still even less)

thats nice, how many JL products have you owned? i know their components are overrated, hence why i did not go with JL for anything but my subwoofer... i have had nothing but good experiences with my 13W7 and 10W6v2, they took (and take) my abuse constantly and in my own opinion were good purchases. I was originally going to go with an RE Audio XXX 15" instead of the 13W7, but after watching my friends XXX go up in smoke... TWICE, among other reasons, i decided to go with the JL. Maybe JL isnt your first choice. Maybe they are actually your last. either way im happy with the performance ive received from their products.

I've owned some W6s and I currently have the 500/5 amp. Why does it matter? I've heard lots of their other products.

The RE XXX is more stout than the W7. Any subwoofer can burn up if you set it up incorrectly. But I am not a big fan of the XXX anyway. Yes, the W7 is good, but I can name you better drivers.

im not saying that there arent better drivers, im saying that based on my experience with subs, JL's tend to take my abuse while sounding loud and clear. thats all i was really looking for in a sub, so the W6/W7's fit my needs well.

Well, I've been busy and not had time to read the replies till now. So, now I'll make myself more clear on why I wanted to go all JL.

It doesn't matter which brand I go with for my sound system so long as it's all of one brand. I want to land a sponsorship. As I said in my first post I can wire it in myself but as far as understanding what will give me the most bang for my buck I have no idea. My budget is $1500 for the complete system. Deck, amp, wiring, all 6 speakers, 2 12"s and the sub enclosure from subthump.com. Some people I've talked with said JL was a great way to go, but I neglected to actually check pricing on it. Something I should have done on my part.

So, lets change things up a bit. What brand of audio tech would you recommend that is show worthy and not going to cost me an arm and a leg?

I never play rap except on a rare occasion. I play mostly rock but some of the rock I play has some pretty deep base. Take the song Ion from Apocalyptica. It has some pretty low notes. So I'm going to need something that can keep up at a fast intense pace and still kick out the ear drumming bass.

A friend of mine has 2 12 inch competition Rockford Fosgate subs. She says they're worth about 500 a piece and will sell them both to me for 200. I'm going to check them out on Saturday after I get off from work. I'll post up the info on them later that night. If I feel I'm getting a good deal I'll buy them.

Well, if you could the fact that RE Audio is owned by US Amps then I would go with an RE Audio + US Amps system over JL.

itll be more difficult finding a COMPLETE (head unit + everything else) brand matching system thats high quality... one of the better ones that comes to mind is Alpine. i agree with dragon rage, go with us amps and RE, both are quality brands for a much lower cost.

you also may want to consider going with 2 10" subs instead of 12's... better suited for the type of music you listen to

edit: also know that rockford fosgate's quality has dropped SIGNIFICANTLY since just a few years back, the HX2 was the last good subwoofer they made IMO

As far as the 12s go I'm going to be checking them out before I buy them. I'll get the model number and everything else off them. But still, $200 for 2 12"s........I don't think I can beat that anywhere else. lol

Not true at all. A properly designed 10" does not sound better than a properly designed 12", or 15". Hell, there are some excellent 18" subwoofers that are good for all types of music, just that they need boxes too big for most cars.

If you're going to do a subwoofer, do it right the first time. And that means a minimum of 12".

That all depends on what model Rockford subs they are. I haven't been impressed with RF subs in quite a while. Plus "competition sub" can mean quite different things in the car audio world. Are these SPL subs or SQ subs? I've seen a couple of RF subs that were "competition level" that were purely SPL subs. In that case they sound like crap. Generally they are good for one big loud burp of bass going for a big number. Nothing close to what you would want to listen to. Just want to make sure your getting what you want instead of purely basing it on price.

What would you personally recommend that won't break the budget but will hit decently?

Ok, I work at Autozone and with a 20% discount of most items in the store I couldn't resist this. I picked up this deck for $84 after tax. What do you think guys?

http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entert...iver/KDC-MP142

I just noticed that the deck isn't designed to hook up to 6 speakers. Let alone an amp. Is there a way I can get this deck to work with all 6 speakers and 2 subs? I really don't want to have to return it.
