And seriously, you should thank the public education system for your mental processes, because you have been conditioned to believe that obedience=intelligence and laws=morals. This is simply not true, and for people to trumpet the laws as if they are personally offended by someone else "breaking" them is pretty pathetic.

And I'd be willing to bet most of you repeating this garbage aren't actual cops, so you sitting there saying "well you speed so you deserve to be pulled over and ticketed!!" is basically "BOO F'IN HOO".

You aren't the cop, it isn't your call, and you have no business trying to make the call. If you are a cop, well then it's entirely your right to do your job. But so many people just sit there pretending and tossing out this kind of BS as if they are somehow morally better people for saying it.

I mean, lets be real here, your attitude isn't actually centered on caring for others saftey, you just want a chance to point a finger and say "i'm better than you".
You don't know me and you have no idea what my motivation for posting is, so don't pretend you have some kind of righteous indignation about comments made.

I have had a number of friends seriously injured and a couple killed by inattentive drivers. I, myself, was in a motorcycle accident caused by a driver running a stop sign about a dozen years ago. My wife and I weren't seriously hurt only because we wear protective gear including helmets. But the bike suffered $5000 damage. So, this subject has a very personal meaning to me. I am not pretending to be morally superior. I know from personal experience how doing stupid things while driving (such as running red lights or driving 26mph over the posted speed limit) can cause grievous harm to other innocent drivers/riders on the road.

And, just because you've never had an accident doesn't make you a good driver - it makes you lucky. If you're flaunting the rules of the road (whatever you may think of them) then you are not a good and safe driver... you're a lucky jackass.

My condolences on your losses, WhiteBird00. But motivation for your comments are still biased by those losses. The things that have happened to you are obviously driving you to say the things you are saying here. You need to remember where you are typing.. You are on a forum dedicated to high performance LSX muscle and sports cars, pushing them in both speed and performance. The vast majority of the people here drag, slalom, road, and street race. Attacking any of that here would be like walking into the last presidential inauguration and talking **** about how a black guy should never be president... well.. maybe not that bad.. but you get the point. lol

i skipped to the end due to too much antagonizing and also not seeing from others perspective. automatically assuming a driver that is doing 66 in a 40, is either a young dum kid,a racer, incompetent driver, etc. ive driving across the whole east cost from maine to mississippi to florida and even europe and ive never seen speed limits change like they do here going in a straight line

. i am very conscientious of my surroundings and my driving skills are in no question. there is too much bashing on here!! don't quote me on it but i believe the camera takes a pic at .4 hundreths of a sec when involved in a traffic light (written on citation i received). there are many instances where you are pursuing to go through a light but get hung out to dry because of a sudden backup (referring to other ticket). this is one of the most congested areas in the country (i believe #2 behing LA) and it is very easy for all drivers to receive citations no matter how competent the driver is. so to some of you bashers in here (especially the tard that thinks he's a know it all) come drive here in D.C and try not to get in a car accident (regardless of fault), citation, etc...

i understand why there is many cameras here (worst drivers ive ever seen) and have no problem with cameras offering a safer environment. it is very known that D.C is in debt and that they are putting up more and more cameras even in controversial areas where they sand bag in between speed limit changes.

i believe i was an unfortunate one that got caught in the BS. enough with the sand bagging and i would like info about some detectors out there with real world results (not one thing has been mentioned yet). so if the mod or anyone has useless bashing info either close the damn thread or post some good info. it seems people get caught up in emotions because of lost ones or if they're victims themselves of aggressive drivers and automatically assume something when someone post that their driving 66 in a 40. im done talking. sorry for spell errors, fragments, punctuation im not writing an essay or a theses . again, please some results on detectors or other helpful legal alternatives regarding the post. can i get an AMEN!

Real world results:

I'm in central mass, we don't have to many if any automated cameras like that, but the staties are real aggressive at times here and it's pretty common to see them just setup camp and nail people all day long.

Started with the 60 dollar Cobra detector from sears. Honestly, as cheap as it was, I drove for 3 years with it, and as long as I wasn't going much over 85, it would always catch any radar that came up and give me enough time to get down to 65. Never got pulled over in those 3 years. Friend of mine borrowed the detector once and broke it.

Now any time that I encountered LASER, I saw the cop before he could fire it at me, and when he did, the detector did not go off. Detector only caught laser one time ever, in a tool booth.

Now I have an Escort 8500. The older model, not the one with pop detection.

Detects radar as well or better than the cobra, but to be honest I haven't noticed a lot of difference. Mass really doesn't have any areas where you have flat ground and can bounce a radar signal for very far, so this might be a factor.

The detector has gone off for laser more often than the cheap one did though, it tends to pick up every toll booth camera I go through and has popped on once or twice on the highway when there was a cop nailing cars downrange.

For radar, I think even this standard older model escort 8500 is plenty for my purposes, it seems to buy me about 20mph on the highway (limit is 65)

For laser, I still feel that the best way is going to be a true laser jammer system, I think the latest bang for the buck version being Blinder M20 extreme or something. The windshield mount style of detector is inherently going to have a lot of trouble seeing laser and wouldn't help you avoid anything even if it could, a jammer actually buys you some time.

My 8500 X50 kinda sucks... I sent it in for repair and they said they fixed the antenna, but it's no better... I know bum units happen but when they're happy to take my money for repairs that don't help anything, I don't think I will be buying another Escort, personally.
