i installed satelite in my car also, from experience i would use it. with out it, the antenna moves around and leaves scratches. the worst i see that stuff doing is leaving some glue on the panel, which i am sure could be cleaned with a cleaner like goo be gone or something.

My XM antenna is hidden in the hatch itself:

WhiteBird00 hid his antenna under the dash:

The easiest best mounting spot I've found is where Whitebird has his. Reception is good and very easy to do. I have used tha area for antennas on navigation units also.

Take off the t-tops. Remove the a pillar trim by removing the two screws at the top of each and then pulling loose from the clips. Carefully pry the dash panel up. It is held in place by a combination of spring clips and velcro strips. Be careful - the edges are sharp and the plastic can become brittle over the years.

Put the antenna on the left side for best reception. This is because overhanging trees and other obstructions will affect the right side more than the left.

Installation is the reverse. Be sure to line up the guide pins on the plastic dash panel with the holes underneath then push down firmly to seat the clips.
