i enjoy having my drl's during the day time. but when it comes to night driving, i dont like having 6 lights on at once. is it at all possible to delete the drl's only when the headlights are on?

Not legal in the United States. (You have to have yellow running lights on in the front.)

I never describe how to do illegal modifications (especially safety related) like bypassing DVD players or disabling required lights but I can give you some background.

The amber lights that are on with the headlights are not DRLs. The housings have dual filament bulbs - a bright filament for DRLs and turn signals and a dim filament for marker/running lights when the headlights are on. Each filament has a separate power supply. That should be enough information should you decide that you still want to make this illegal modification. Bear in mind that the marker lights are important for indicating the the outer edge of your car should one of your headlights burn out.
