Default Amp selection advice for 10" Alpine sub

I have an Alpine SWR-1042D 10" Type R with dual 4 ohm coils in a subthump stealth enclosure on my drivers side and I am looking to upgrade my amp. I used to run a 760 watt Pioneer amp that worked great. I used it for a long time and it died on me after years of good use. Now I am using a Phoenix Gold amp that really is just the wrong application for this sub.

I am not looking to blow the doors of my cars, I just want nice clean bass. Not looking to spend a ton of money. With the amp I am using now the bass just seems really mushy. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Nice. Yeah my main problem is that the Alpine sub I have will run 250w RMS at 4 ohms. The Alpine sub I have is a 4 ohm DVC so I either get 2 ohms or 8 ohms depending on if I am in parallel or series respectively. So I am losing out on a lot of power because I don't have the right set up.

That Alpine MRPM500 looks like a reasonably priced amp. I think I might go with that and then use the PG amp to power the door speakers.

I just installed an RE SE 10" in a subthump with an infinity reference 611a mono amp. I believe the 611a is discontinued and they are now selling the 1600a instead, but after reading nothing but great reviews on the 611a I went with that. I bought it off a seller on ebay new in box, shipped for $190.

The 611a is rated at 657RMS@2ohms. and I have the sub wired parallel to run it at 2ohms. The sub is rated at 600 RMS, I also bought that off ebay for $130 shipped. The 611a is perfect for the RE SE10 but it may be a bit much for the Type R. I'm not positve what RMS the type R is rated at. The alpine mrpm500 is 300RMS@2ohms I think right?

Either way, I'm sure you can find the mrpm500 for a good price on ebay, there are some good sellers on there if you find the right ones.

My old amp was a kicker zx750.1. Birthsheet says 900rms at 2 ohms. Of course you dont have to run the gain turned up all the way, you have room to up the power.
You can also find them pretty cheap on ebay new.

That is exactly what you want. Most amps will not run at 1 ohm so a DVC 2ohm sub would not be a good choice because it would limit your amp choices a bit. Running that sub in parallel at 2ohms is perfect because most class-D sub amps are 2ohm stable. Your not losing out on any power at all. Your actually getting all you can at 2ohms from most amps.

Yeah I hear you, but this amp is not like most class D amps. Bridged it is only stable at 4 ohms.
