Default audio advice

Dear ls1tech gurus,

I've done some research but am unable to find something to meet my exact needs. I want to put an Aux input for an ipod on my radio.

Here is my situation. I have a 1998 Z28 with ttops and a factory radio. My factory radio works but the CD player( don't have CD changer) doesn't work anymore. I just put in a disk and it says Err and spits the disk back out. So, I don't think a mod I found on here where the modder used the channel from the CD player to feed audio in through an Aux adapter will work. I would like to keep the original factory look. As a result, I'm not too interested in aftermarket stuff. But who knows. Also, my head unit has a button that says "Aux"

My questions are:
Is there another newer Head unit from another newer GM vehicle with an aux input that would fit?

Or, is there another newer head unit from another newer GM vehicle that could be modded more easily than my head unit.

I saw this somewhere in my research

Has anyone used this? If so, what was your experience with it? It looks like a possibility but is awfully expensive.

Thanks ahead and any advice is greatly appreciated.

Factory CD changer will not work with a 98 single CD head unit. Only cassette head units supported the changer until the 2000 model year.

However, the mod mentioned before will work with your HU because it feeds signal directly to the internal amp. The presence or condition of the single CD drive makes no difference.

if i recall the cd player has to spin the disc though so the radio thinks its playin

maybe we need to find a way to tap on the tuner side

Sorry, you're right - I forgot about that. But I'll bet you could get a working Monsoon HU pretty cheap in the "for sale" section. Depending on what year it came from, you could either modify it or add one of the auxiliary input adapters to the CD changer port.
