Default LOC on the stereo

Just got the transmission rebuilt and picked up the car. The stereo has LOC on it. What do I do?

There is a procedure in the owners manual if you know the code that was set.

Otherwise, dealer can unlock it. I would get tranny shop to pay the bill.

How did it happen? What would a dealer charge?

I don't know the code. I assume it may be the default. Is there a default code?

You usually don't have to worry about the TheftLock feature. TheftLock is not activated when you buy a new car and most owners don't bother activating it after taking delivery. Considering how little used Monsoon head units cost, there isn't much market for stolen ones. You can tell if TheftLock is activated by the flashing red LED on the face of the radio when the car isn't running.

When TheftLock is activated, the radio will display LOC to indicate a locked condition anytime battery power is removed. If your battery loses power for any reason, you must unlock the radio with the secret code before it will operate.

Unlocking the Theft-Deterrent Feature After a Power Loss

If you know the code that was used to lock the radio then use the following instructions from the owner's manual to unlock the radio.
Enter your secret code as follows; pause no more than 15 seconds between steps:
1. Turn the ignition on. LOC will appear on the display.
2. Press MIN and 000 will appear on the display.
3. Press MIN again until the last two digits agree with your code.
4. Press HR until the first one or two digits agree with your code.
5. Press AM-FM after you have confirmed that the code matches your secret code. The display will show SEC, indicating the radio is now operable and secure.

If you enter the wrong code eight times, INOP will appear on the display. You will have to wait an hour with the ignition on before you can try again. When you try again, you will only have three more chances (eight tries per chance) to enter the correct code before INOP appears.
If you don't know the code that was used to lock the radio then you will have to use the dealer's unlock procedure as follows. The dealer code changes over time - the one listed is current as of this posting. If it doesn't work try 08359 or search the forum for messages with a more recent code.
1. Press and hold presets 2 & 3 for about 10 seconds until the first three digits of the display code are displayed.
2. Write the numbers down.
3. Press the AM-FM button, write down the next three numbers.
4. Call 1-800-537-5140. When asked, enter dealer code 202108, press the * button, and enter the six digit code from the radio. You will get an unlock code, write it down.
5. Go back to the car, press the HR button and set the first two numbers, press the MIN button and set the next two numbers, then press the AM-FM button. The display will show SEC, indicating the radio is now operable and secure.

To remove the code, repeat step 5. you should see --- on the radio face indicating the code is now out of the radio.

For 202108, it says "invalid account number."

That's probably because all the Pontiac dealers (code 2) have closed due to GM shutting down the division. There are plenty of other codes floating around - you'll need one for an existing dealer (Chevy, GMC, etc.). A Google search should turn up a current one or you can get your local dealer to do it. Some will do it for free, others may charge $50 or more to simply make the call and enter the code (a rip-off). You can often find a replacement head unit for that much.

I found one online and got the four-digit unlock code. I guess it'll work next time, right? Thanks.

Please post or PM the code to me and I'll update the Monsoon FAQ so that others will have the information available.

Now that you have it unlocked, I recommend you turn off the TheftLock on your radio. Nobody is interested in stealing factory head units and even if they do, they can get the unlock code as easily as you did. So it's more convenient to turn TheftLock off so that you don't have a problem the next time you disconnect your battery when working on the car.

How do I turn it off?

The dealer code I used is 206053.

Disabling the Theft-Deterrent Feature
Enter your secret code as follows; pause no more than 15 seconds between steps:
1. Turn the ignition to ACC or RUN.
2. Turn the radio off.
3. Press the 1 and 4 buttons together. Hold them down until SEC shows on the display.
4. Press MIN and 000 will appear on the display.
5. Press MIN again to make the last two digits agree with your code.
6. Press HR to make the first one or two digits agree with your code.
7. Press AM-FM after you have confirmed that the code matches the secret code you have written down.
The display will show ---, indicating that the radio is no longer secured.

If the code entered is incorrect, SEC will appear on the display. The radio will remain secured until the correct code is entered.
Thanks for the updated code.

Not to be a pain, but why should the tranny shop foot the bill? It is the owners responsibility to know the code as disconnecting the battery is a routine operation when working on cars for almost anything. The tranny shop is not reponsible for paying to have a radio unlocked if they were just doing their job? Just my opinion.

Why would the tranny shop have to pay the bill? That makes no sense at all. I'm all about customer service but that is ridiculous.

Assuming it is the original radio that came with the vehicle, just disconnect the battery negative lead for 15 minutes or more and reconnect to reset the radio. If it's not the original radio then you'll have to go to the dealer to get it programmed to match your VIN.

Default 4 vs 6 digit

If the 6 digit format is entered 000 000.
then how would you enter a 4 digit code??
They gave me 1079. Is it 107900 or 001079.
frustrating to wait an hour each time.
thanks
