Almost ANY name-brand aftermarket head unit can be made to work with the steering wheel controls. For recent models, just look for a wired remote jack on the head unit (that information will be listed in the HU's specs). Even most older model HUs with infrared remotes can be adapted to work (some older Sony models are a noteable exception).

Aftermarket head units will require an adapter to translate the steering wheel switch signals. Wired remote adapters are SWI-PS (Pioneer and Sony), SWI-JACK (JVC, Alpine, Clarion, and Kenwood), and the SWI-ECL2 (Eclipse). The "universal" infrared adapter is the SWI-X.

I used the SWI-X in my GTP with good luck. Having had steering controls on my last 2 cars, its hard to go without. Guess I'm getting used to the bells and whistles these days

I have an Alpine CDA-9847 head unit and was wondering if someone could tell me if I could use PAC's SWI-JACK to control the headunit from the steering wheel instead of the SWI-X.

i am pretty sure that I could use their SWI-X because the Alpine manual says to point the remote at the remote control sensor. if you search the pdf for the word remote, it will be the first thing that comes up (page 7 top left corner)

also, i dont have to have an actual remote for this to work, i just need the capability to handle a remote right?

thanks 'tech

EDIT: I cant attach the manual because the pdf is too large but if you go HERE and search CDA-9847 you can view/download the owner's manual.

I have the SWI-X on my TA with the Kenwood HU and it works flawlessly. I'll be switching over the the SWI-Jack in the near future to eliminate the need for an IR emitter. They are easy to program and work really good.

The only thing I can think of is that Pioneer did something with their new line of HUs that made them incompatible, and this is PAC's response. I don't think it has anything to do with having Bluetooth built in, but I could be wrong.

Really if you want bluetooth just get a unit that has it built in and call it a day. Much easier and user friendly generally.

Yup, my Kenwood KDC-x994 has BT built in and it works flawlessly. Plus I can use PAC control as well for my wheel controls.

LOL - R U serious? It is used in most new cars and new aftermarket HU's for linking your cell phone for wireless or handfree calling thru your speakers and also some units have the ability to wirelessly stream audio thru BT to your HU as well.

I knew about the hands free calling through the speakers. The audio part is what I was unsure of.
