Haven't seen pics but why do it when 6.5's will sound better? The 8's will sound bad free air but if you're gona do it you'd just need to just cut the sail panel or fiberglass an enclosure or something if you want a cleaner look. IMO I'd stick with the 6.5's but maybe someone with pics will chime in.

I did it. The 8" in sails thread was mine. I apparently deleted the pix and now I don't remember what I did with them. I will try to find them, but I did do it. I don't know where the pix are and my fquick shows deleted, but I don't remember removing them. Hope I can find them.

What I did was made some new templates out of some sheet metal that I had around. It was a lot of work. I had to cut the holes where the 6.5's went out so I had room to fit the new 8". I had to weld a new plate over the hole where the 6.5 was. I did that to have a flat mounting surface. Like I said it was a lot of work and a huge mess. It did sound better and the 8" are able to hit a lower note, but one thing to remember with the stock HU you will get a lot of distortion. I have mine amped now and also installed a new HU which cleared up the signal a lot. The speakers I used are cheap junk too. I think the max mounting depth that I measured was just under 4" so you will need a compact speaker.

To be honnest with you it is a lot of work. While it did sound quite a bit better with the bass, if I was to do it over I would just have gotten a 10" in a stealth box. I will try to find my build pix.

i know for sure im gonna but a kicker l7 ina stealth box bu for right now i have the 2 8's and i think there gonna be a cool thing to do with th sails. the speaker has a mount depth of 4 in and i got 2 mdf rings to help boost the seaker out a lil, i dont think im gonna have to get into the mess of cuting and welding but i know the sub id going to stick out past the plastic a lil and im still debating on what to do with that... and i thing the stock monsoon amp should be able to handle these speakers, there dvc 4ohm and 50-150 rms 300max. as for there head unit when i get more cash im going to order a 1 din 5in flip down touch screen to put in should look nice plus i think im gonna get one of those really nice HU install kits. but ANY pics would be great.. just trying to gather ideas. THANKS!!

If the speakers are 3" in depth or less no spacer is needed

It is unclear to me if you are looking to add bass to your system or just some low end punch. If you are just looking for some nice low end punch, check out the Kicker ssmb8. It is an 8" free air mid-bass. I believe they are discontinued but you can certainly find some on the internet. The mounting depth is only 2 5/8" according to the specs (if I am reading it correcctly).

Specs are here http://www.crutchfield.com/p_2064SSM...ures_and_specs

Good luck with the build. Let us know how it goes no matter what you decide. I would be interested to know how an 8" mid-bass sounds in the sail panel.

Wow, this seems like a good Idea.
Might have to think about it.

the reason im going with the 8's in the sails is for good midrange bass and to add an extra kick it the middle of the car. for low bass im going to put a kicker L7 10 in a stealth box but that will come later. for right now i got 2 polk audio db840DVC subs shipping to me this week. they are dual 4ohm like the stock subs and 50-150 rms so the stock monsoon amp should be able to power them nicely. im going to space them out about 1/2 an inch so the mag will clear and cut the plastic accordingly. i will ad some pics when i get the subs in and start working on it.

Some good 8's to put in the sail panels are Rainbow 8" W 200 X-Plain (1.7" mounting depth). These need 50-100 watts rms each.
