Default How big of a Touch screen?

I know nothing about Sound systems or head units, but I have all factory stuff and I want to make the interior look a little better and have more options for music, etc. I have good fab skills and I am wanting to install a 7inch touch screen with all the bells and whistles. I have seen people install touch screens with the HVAC controls installed near the stock location, but it appears to be modified (which I should be able to take care of)

How big of a screen can I go 7inch? Or should I stay smaller?

Whats the difference in Double and Single Din?

Double DIN head units are available with 6.95" screens - that's essentially 7 inches.

Unless you're planning to go the car PC route or do other significant customizing of your system, I recommend you install a double DIN head unit. They come with most of the bells and whistles ready to go (USB, iPod, DVD, GPS, auxiliary input, rear view camera, etc.) so you don't have to put together all those things yourself. You still have to modify the trim bezel to make the double DIN fit in the dash properly but that's not particularly difficult if you're good with fabricating or you can buy modified bezels ready to install.

I actually just bought a Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD which is a 5.8 screen, nice Double Din unit and I only paid $320 shipped. It will do anything I want it too, so it was a good match for me.

The only question I have now is do I need a special cable to hook it up? I'll mock up the fitment issue, but I was wondering on the difficulty of install?

Any help is appreciated.

I got a 7" Alpine flip out. Use Crutchfield.com to your advantage. they will tell you everything you need to install. They also give you alot of free instal stuff. When I bought mine on R&R, I even got a nav system for free with the H/U

Wiring of a double DIN head unit is no more difficult than any aftermarket HU. Get an adapter harness (standard 88+ GM harness adapter), connect it color for color (red to red, orange to orange, etc.) to the HU wires, then plug it into the factory connector.

Sounds pretty easy, I looked on crutchfield and I couldn't find anything??? Where can I get the harness adapter, what do they usually go for?

Thank you guys.

Built me an aluminum Double Din setup with 2 switchs (paddle shift and Line lock) and 2 LED lights ( Meth working/ EWP not working) built into it. Plan on having it carbon fiber upohesterd in the next few days.

However, it looks like I am going to have to cut a little on the inside of the factory headunit was, seems like a tight fit? Also how do I secure this headunit I have now? Do I need to buy a universal mounting kit?
