The harness will be listed as GM 21-pin 1988 and up. The Metra part number is 70-1858. Scosche and several other manufacturers also make this harness.

Some head units have a light sensor mounted in their face that dims the display based on available light rather than on whether the headlights are on or not. This is actually preferable because it gives the right illumination even when you have your headlights on during the day (when it's raining or whatever).

i know this doesnt have to do with fbodies, but what do the other PAC wires do other than the red/black/green? (out of curiousity)

Most of the other wires are loops that act much the same way as jumpers on a computer motherboard. They turn various configurations on or off. Cutting the loops of wires is the same as removing a jumper from a circuit board - it's just more convenient.
