c5 radio hey guys, i just installed a radio in my vette last night, but there's a gap between the top of the radio and the din it sits in. Is there a plate I can use to hide this? or something to take up the gap?
also, do i need an antenna adaptor?

I wasnt sure about the adaptor because its been a while since i had an aftermarket one. How do you get rid of that round thing in the back of the din? It keeps the radio from being flush. Ive heard people bending it or removing it but how?
I do believe vette's have a 1.5 din slot, most aftermarket stereos are 1 din, or 2 din; So you'll have to get a dash kit to make it look intentional that there is a hole there (storage?) or a kit that just extends up making it clean looking.

DIN refers to the Deutsches Institut für Normung (German Institute for Standards) which is much like ANSI (American National Stantards Institute) here in the US. They have various standards for device dimensions, cables, connectors, and other electronics.
When someone says single DIN, they are refering to a head unit that meets the size specifications of the DIN standards. Single DIN has a faceplate about 2" tall, 1.5 DIN is about 3" tall, and double DIN is about 4" tall.
The support tray behind the dash that the head unit sits on is not a "din". A "din" is not a thing - it's a measurment. The dash opening in most GM vehicles before 2003 and many Chrysler vehicles is sized to be 50% larger than the DIN standard so it's called 1.5 DIN. More recent vehicles have the larger double DIN head units.
You can cut off the plastic tab at the back of the support tray with a hack saw or rotary tool or you can just bend it backwards until it is flat so that it doesn't interfere with sliding the new head unit into place.

the little tab is metal on corvettes. thats why i ask about the dremel. bending it back isnt exactly easy because of the wall behind it, and its tough to get tools in there also

The tab is normally metal with a plastic coating (presumably to prevent scratches?). The metal is fairly thin and can usually be bent without tools.

i beg to differ. these are actually metal metal. i was able to cut the one in the t/a because it was plastic, but this is metal. one of these days ill get a pic
