Lightbulb Alpine SPS 600's in my rear sail panel's... Monsoon, T/A

http://www.amazon.com/Alpine-SPS-600.../dp/B0013FMWPC - these are the speakers.

I bought them last year with help from a friend that works at bestbuy(got them for his price which is like half off), they are supposed to be very nice. They are bridged to 2 ohms. Well I didn't know better then, and they fit and sound ok, the bass at a low volume isnt too bad, but once i turn it up the base sounds funny, like it stops being as deep of a bass and just sounds weird... They are very clear but when i turn it up, they don't pop or anything, maybe they get slightly distorted... Its hard to explain.

So i might end up putting these in my door panels eventually and then i'll pick up some 6.5 subs.

I'm mainly making this thread maybe to inform people to not do what i did, and to read the stickies!!!! So, is it the speakers that are the problem or is it also because the Monsoon amp has some type of crossover???

Yes. The Monsoon amp ONLY feeds mid-bass signals to the sail panel speakers. So it would be much better to put some subs in there.

Yeah, too bad, i just purchased a 10"sub so i'm thinking that would be enough bass, im mainly going for quality so i hope im still debating on what to put in there for a sub.

On a side note, the speakers play everything well except for the bass at higher volumes, if there is a crossover why does it seem to make the bass worse and everything else better?

Because the speakers cant handle the amount of bass going to them. There is a probably a high freq cutoff, letting everything else go through. Those speakers can handle the midrange, but not the low bass.
