Help with system?

Anyway...back to the point here, I haven't had a subwoofer system since I was in highschool all the way back in 1993ish! The amp isn't getting any power so I checked under the hood to see if it was even hooked up to the battery. There is a cable heading in the direction of the battery on the passenger side with a connector crimped on the end that would obviously connect to the battery cable, thus supply power to the amp and the is somthing that the cable then goes into and comes out the other side; its clear plastic and its about 3-4 inches long. This micht be a fuse holder, but I'm not looking at it right now since I'm at work. When you look at it the middle has a very thin wire in it, somewhat resembles in inards of a light bulb...what is this? I am thinking whatever it is, it needs replacing because there electrical tape on both ends and one ends is broken. She said when the stereo worked it would sometimes cut in and out.

If there is electrical tape on it, I'd say it needs to be replaced. Most likely, it is either a 60 or 100 amp fuse, but it will be stamped on the fuse somewhere. Replace that, and you should be good to go.
