Default Steering wheel lights

I no longer have a stock monsoon radio but still have the steering wheel controls. How do I turn the lights off? What wire to cut if thats possible?

Most aftermarket head units can be adapted to continue to use the controls. If you want to kill the lights either way, the easiest way is to pull the switches out. Gently put a flathead screwdriver between the button and the steering wheel and, again gently, pry. The buttons come right out with a little wiggling, prying and some finesse. Disconnect the harness that plugs into the rear of the button. Now take the button apart so that you can pull the bulb out. Done and done!

I believe they have their own fuse. Just take the fuse out...

You're right. There are two 1-amp fuses in the fuse panel labeled STG WHL CNTRL - fuse #3 is for the switch function and fuse #13 is for the switch illumination.

99T/A. Left steering wheel lights works, right doesn't. Is it possible to open up the switch without breaking it to hell and back to change the bulb?

I think there are several bulbs. You may want to check the connector behind the airbag - in the steering wheel first.

It's actually very easy to open the switches if you take your time and use a jewelers screw driver. I have completely taken apart used and new ones with no problems when re-installed.

Ah - you just need to solder a new one in. There is a really good post somewhere here on how to do exactly that. Depending on if you have the old design or new design board, the soldering will be easier/harder.
