I have that kit. There is room for a cell but the depth becomes an issue in trying to get it out. It's tall enough for a cell phone but not much room to get fingers in to get it back out.
I have one similar in the picture of the AVX1, the unit is just larger so it is harder to see the slot.

thanks for the info on HU mount guys. I doubt my phone with its case would fit in there.
