dash voltmeter
dash voltmeter So my dash volt meter is pretty much reading 10volts. Previously it had sat around 13volts. Just last week was having issues with it so pulled over to call and get it tow. And when he came it wouldn't start, like dead battery. Can't remember looking at the volt meter previous to the issues. Well had been having to occasionally putting the trickle charger or jumping it during the winter.
Well here's what i have done so far. I checked the volt at the positive terminal and read 12.75 with the car off. Read the same at the auxiliary post. Just for kicks went and bought a brand new optima redtop and its about the same volts. Just tying to figure out why the dash gauge hasn't risen any.

The voltmeter indicates alternator output not battery level. Take the car (or just the alternator) to your local auto parts store (Pep Boys, Auto Zone, etc.). Many of them will test it for free.
