HOLY CRAP!!! Is it really worth $800? That's a lot of money.... does it work THAT well. Does it work everytime? That's hard to spend that much money on something like that. I appreciate all of your opinions.

for real.... where'd you get $800 from? you might get up to ~$500 if you get all of the accessories for it & such, but not $800...... but yes it IS worth the money... do a search.... there are lots of threads on radar detectors, especially the V1.

Crap! I just posted in the racer's lounge about my new v1 before checking here first. Ugh! That thing is sick, but too many false alarms in the city. I go from Orlando to Gainesville like once a week and simply fly down there because of the v1. It is wonderful. Cost me $406 brand new shipped to my house from the factory.

I borrowed my friends valentine everytime I goto LA that I can. It has saved me 4 tickets at least. Gives you PLENTY Of warning before you even see the cop. I can go 95+ most of the way. I only slow down to stop, or when it beeps for cops. Trust me its worth every penny. So much so I am thinking I need to buy one sooner or later.

Not only excellent range, but you know how many
signals there are besides the one from the nearest
door opener. And whether the cop that just went
by in the other direction is the one with the gun.

V1 is supreme.

Only thing that pisses me off is when those new
Envoys with the laser backup warning systems
set off the laser alert.

Get it. Get it. Get it. Get the remote display also. I don't like spending my money to help out other drivers on the road too cheap to buy their own!

The bogey counter is worth its weight in gold.

Damn... I just searched on google and it came up with soem sight that wanted $800. F them... anyway, looks like I will definitely be getting one then. What kind of protection does it offer for laser activity though? I mean, is it still the same old, "by the time you know they're there, they've already zapped you type thing," or does it offer some sort of warning or protection? F lasers too.

The Passport 8500 and the Valentine 1 are the top two radar detectors. Many tests have been to death on these products. One test shows the V1 being number 1 and then another test shows the Passport being number 1. But all of the tests admitted that the V1 gave a little more "false" alarms in the city rather than the passport.
It just comes down to personal preferences and if you have an extra $100-200 to spend.
I got a Passport 8500 and have no complaints, I personally don't care for the arrows, all I want, is my radar to go off regardless if he is in front or back of me.
Good luck with your decision!
Oh yeah, they are both upgradable for future changes in radar technology.

Not to me.

My buddy has the V1 and it's the king of false alarms. I love my Passport. Great range and the auto-mute is a beautiful thing.

I Got A Cobra Ultra And It Works Great I Am Sure The V-1 Had A Bit Better Range At 2.5 X The Price But The Cobra Works Well And Like Said Above They Are Radar Dectors Not Cop Detctors They Gotta Be Runnig Gun Alrerady To Get Warned I Think Its An Invalueable Tool But Ya Just Palin Ingorant If Ya Drive By It The Popo Has Engineered Ther Guns To Not Emit Signals Unless Their Running Guns Just For That Reason Also The Most Avlueable Feature Ive Ever Seen Is The Rmp Detection Of The Cobra Ti Goes Into Mute When Your At A Real Low Rpm So Basically It Dont Bother The Hell Out Of You ... The Valintine And The Passport Are Great Pieces But My Opnion Is The Cobra Will Work Just Fine Too The Only Benfit Of The Valntine I Seeis If Ya Try N Drive By Radar Then Ya Might Luck Out A Bit More But Liek I Already Said This Is Not A Great Idea Beacouse I Know Round Here They More Times Than Not To Visual Spped Assessments Before Clocking (except On Hwy , There They Just Leave It Runing)
