Default Which Radar?

So who has a radar detector and what kind is it? I'm really in need of one and have had Cobras all my life. They seem to work good but one of my friends has a Valentine One and another one of my friends has a Passport. They both seem to work awesome but they might be overpriced..? Let me hear some stories please!

This is not what you want to hear, but don't waste your money on a Radar Detector. 12-15+ years ago sure, but instant-on killed the golden goose.....not to mention Laser.
Best advice is to speed intelligently. Basic common sense stuff: no rapid lane changes, no high speed very close tailgating, avoid the fast lane etc. etc.
Also speed reduction zones are easy money for cops. If you drive 65 in a 50, you will get a ticket.

I will have to agree with cpo just as how your own judgement is your best radar, but having my escort almost gives me a feeling of extra security, but don't expect the radar to always save you even though most of the time it will.

I am an admitted radar detector junkie..... Escort Redline and V1 are the best, unless you want to spend the money on a STI-R plus.... By far the beat radar detector ever made.

CPO: I couldn't disagree with you more. Most officers do not use instant on correctly and a high end detector will save you plenty enough to be worth the small investment. Laser is better ! A quality jammer such as the laser interceptor will jam them 99% of the time.

cpo- I agree with you, however, on my 6 hour I-5 trips up and down California, the Passport has saved me countless times, doesn't do much for me in local settings, but any big trip I make, it has been a huge help.

Regarding the jammers, if a cop's detector gets jammed, don't they instantly figure you have a jammer and therefore reason to pull you over? If not, what exactly do the cops see on their radars when you pass by?

Re jammers: laser and radar are two completely different animals. Easy to jam laser and legal in most states. Not easy to jam radar and very illegal everywhere.

Lasers: I have personally owned numerous laser guns to test jammer set-ups. Lasers can be tricky at distances over 1200ft and do not get instant readings unless the operator is perfectly still. The proper way to use a jammer is get the alert, slam the brakes to the speed limit and the turn off the jammer. Then the officer gets a reading and thinks he wasn't still enough. Many factors decide how fast a reading is obtained, distance and color (front plate is a big reason too).

There is a ton to learn about radar and laser. The speeder still has a massive advantage but speeding smart is important too.

^ I agree w that too. I've always got an eye out for cops, but I don't haul ***. Maybe 10 over, but traffic here flows at 70 in a 50 anyway. I just go with the flow in the middle lane.

Rocky Mountain for me.. This one was spotting cops out in the desert from more than 5 miles away. 0_o There was nothing else out there, so if there WAS radar in use anywhere in the next 10 miles it would find it WELL in advance. Saved my *** a couple times.

No offense but rocky mountains are among the worst detectors available. Their claims of jamming are 100% fraudulent and their detection capabilities are well below mediocre. Sorry to sound like a Dick but that's the complete truth.

^ Meh.. No big deal. I've had it for a while and never really had a problem with it. The speaker quit on it recently anyway.
