Default Door panel tweeter install in camaro

Is there anything to watch out for when doing this before I cut a hole in my door panel? I was going to mount it above the factory speaker grille and in front of the door handle.

I can't really remember what's above the speaker grille on the back
side of the door panel. I mounted mine near the upper corner of the
speaker grille in the carpet. It worked pretty well.

But you'll probably have to remove the door panel to run the
wiring anyways. So just check it out when you get it apart.

I have it apart, but I've never installed speakers before and I'm not sure if I would run into any clearance exactly (how close the door panel is to touching the actual door).

On your install does it sit perfectly? I might just try that.

They installed without a problem & they sit flush. They almost
look like they could've come from the factory that way.

My components came with tweeter flush mounting brackets.
You cut/drill the hole & then push them in. They have a lip
around the edge to hold the bracket in place.

The carpeted area just has cardboard behind it.
So it's a pretty simple install. Good luck man.

Or you could buy the 6LE tweeter pods. No door panel cutting involved.

Do those install in the door or in that little triangle right above the door (that covers the bolts for the mirror)?

DO the Pods before you go and cut the door panel!!! Better to buy those then buy a door panel later on down the road. Plus these will put the tweeter in a much better position for imaging.
For Camaro guys wanting to do separates....this is how you do it right!!

If you do decide to go ahead and mount them in the doors you'll need to first determine your mounting locations with the doors closed, then remove the door panel just to make sure you don't have any trimming to do on the back side of the door panel. You'll also want to make sure the tweeters can be swiveled in it's mount base so you can aim them towards the driver, at least to some degree, and use quick disconnect terminals about 8" down the wires.

No one has suggested this yet. But i just installed my tweeters in my A-pillar and the imaging is great. Image is on the dash where it should be I dont hear too much of one side and not the other. You dont have to cut your expensive door panel, You dont have to buy another piece to bolt in (no offense 6liter great products) All you have to do is cut a whole in your a-pillar panel and run some extra wiring. I bought a spare set of pillar panels just in case for $60 and your imaging will be better than putting the tweeter any where on the door. Do your research before you starting cutting holes.

...some tweeters are actually small enough to fit in the "triangle" trim pieces if you have power rear view mirrors. I've got my .75" MB Quart tweets mounted flush in those pieces and they're even cheaper than the A-Pillars to replace at $15-$20 for a pair from a junk yard...

Hi, I saw your picture of .75 MB tweeters installed in the stock power window trim triangles, it looks good. How does it sound? I know they will be close, and point in to the A pillars.

keep in mind that if your speakers cross-over has a setting to slightly turn down/alter the tweeters response so it's not bright, then do so. I'd suggest going 6LE pods for the mirror mount location since you'll get the most direct sound that's not colored by sound reflection first. Now if you plan to keep you car long haul I still feel the door panels are a excellent location to mount them, since they're still high enough to not be blocked by you legs, but low enough to out of harms way (thieves eyes, direct sunlight, and wind & moisture when driving with the windows down). Btw, I'm still running the same Diamond Audio tweeters in the above photos without any weather damage to the tweeters.

MB Quart actually has 0, -3dB, and -6dB settings on their crossovers to turn down their tweeters. Even though I have them in the triangles, I still have them turned down on the -6dB setting to keep them from being so bright. I actully have 6LE's tweeter pods as well, I've just never gotten around to installing them because I am still happy with how they sound in the factory triangle mirror trim...

I'm kinda in the crossroads with this. I can't justify spending $75 on 2 lite plastic tweeter pods. I don't want to cut into door panel either.... grrr! I'm thinking of centering them into mids. I have the stage 3 Kee audio set up.

If you're going to spend money to get a quality system you don't want to lose most of that quality in your placement... it's like doing heads and cam and not wanting to tune the car.

Ian said it best...

Then don't. The benefit of mounting them up higher just prevent your legs from blocking the sound from the tweeters. Anyway the factory tweeter mount location on your firebird is a lot better than in a Camaro, and you can actually hurt the imagining if you mount the tweeter an woofer to far apart. You normally want to keep them within 1ft of each other, but to be 100% sure check with the speaker manufacture since their recommendation might vary from other manufactures.

Here's what CDT has to say about it.

Good main Tweeter placement:
Always make sure the main component system Tweeter is mounted “close to the mid woofer” if possible angled toward the dome light/sunroof area. “Never” mount the main component Tweeter away from the mid woofer and or high up on the door sail panel or rear mirror location, never.
Poor Tweeter placement:
“Never” use the side rear mirror location as your main Tweeter placement! Always mount the main component Tweeter close to the mid woofer location, always!
