What features are you looking for... bluetooth, GPS, iPod control, Pandora?
Pioneer makes very good units that have excellent sound and extended audio controls. But if you want GPS then Kenwood is the best choice because they use Garmin GPS software (the sound quality is comparable to Pioneer but they don't have all the audio control features).
What budget are you considering? Remember that buying a double DIN bezel will add about $100 to the total cost.

I don;t need much, just good music and compatible with my Iphone. I guess USB would be handy down the road. Don't need navigation.

I've had an Alpine 6 disk CD changer hooked up to my stock radio. But it had to utilize some sort of FM modulator or whatever it is called where you tune into a station and listen to the CDs through that. It was nice and worked really well but years later, I ended up changing out my HU to one that could play MP3s and CDs. I liked my Alpine but changing out the HU will make your system sound so much better and all I have to mess with is one USB drive that resides in my glove box.
