stereo upgrade suggestions
Looking to upgrade my factory stereo in my 04 gto. I just want to replace the door speakers, install my new Clarion deck i got for christmas and maybe run a amp on it. Been out of car stereo for a little while so suggestions on best 6.5 door speakers and amp to support it.And i know someone will ask so i will go ahead and say that i listen to a wide variety of music from rap to heavy metal.

^^ I agree for sure...I like the Hertz Energy ECX165's for the money, they cannot be bough online though and if you go through ebay you will end up with fakes.

I'd call the nearest dealer that shows up using that link and your zip and see what they say...don't pay more than about 10% off retail prices but you can usually get it done for around 15% off with most car audio equipment.
I also like the Hertz High Energy, a step up from the Energy; and I personally run the Hertz Mille, step up from High Energy and top of the line. then the Audison Voce's go inbetween the High Energy's and Milles and are also incredible.
I also like the JL c3's for the money but not the C5's (cost more than the energy's), I've got the C3-650s in that blue 66 Chevelle SS, and I like the JL C2's, I have C2-650s in my '01 C5 Vert and you can't beat them for the price, about the same as the Alpine type R components which no offense to anyone but I'm not a fan, CDT and Arc also make nice stuff
As far as the amps it depends on the speakers...but bang for buck favorites are the Alpine MRX, Alpine PDX, Audison SR, Arc Kar, and many others

I found them really bright, even with running active and infinite tuning made possible by my BitOne...I thought the tweeters were way to sharp, which made me hate them.
They sounded great besides that tho, and now I have them in my 09 c6 grand sport vert and with the top down the tweeters are fine, but still way to bright with the top up and windows closed

The deici is Herrz entry level speaker line, the energy is the next step up, then high energy, then Audison Voce (same company, Audison is the high end brand), then Hertz Milles are the top of the line for both brands, I like the voces the most for the cost to performance ratio, but the energy is about the best SQ speaker on the cheapish, and high energy is the most common by far
