That SA-8 is a nice 8", but I've always believed in the bigger brand names and they've certainly served me well in business. I'd put the SA-8 up there with an 8w7 minus a bit of SQ.

As far as wiring goes, I use 4 guage at the minimum for sub amps and really prefer to do 0 guage on anything more than 750 watts RMS. Electricity flows like water, your alternator is the pump, so why use a small hose and limit performance and decrease longevity and durability? make sure to use quality wire, none of the Ebay or Amazon stuff! I use Stinger and JL.

As for the cap, its a common misconception that the cap will keep your sub amp from going into protect mode and all these other wonderful things. when it actually is just another drain on your charging system. Meaning Caps are only beneficial when the vehicle has an incredibly stout charging system to begin with, which, except for some diesel's, can't be said for most stock vehicles.

Even in that situation, Caps have nothing to do with keeping current flowing and voltage up, to a point. The Cap is actually conditioning the power so your amp will have less noise coming in to it, which increases efficiency a bit, lets the amp run a little cooler, and lets the system have better SQ. most newer amps have smaller capacitors built in to take car of a bit of this task. but for Caps more is always better in the right situation.

So 0 gauge wire would be the best to use for this setup? And any links to where you get the wire from?

for wires check out knukonceptz. i recommend the kolossus flex series. ive used multiple brands and its the best wire ive ever used. very flexible and easy to move, and thicker than others. my brother has monster 1/0 and i have the knu, we took a spare piece of his and compared it to mine and mine was noticeably thicker. the flexibility also made it much easier to run compared to his monster.
the kord ultra flex speaker wire is the new speaker wire to match the kolossus flex. a good choice to match.

if your planning on a 1000 w RMS amp with with either the 2x 10w3's or 3x 8w3's then I'd for sure use 0 guage. If your just gonna do the pair of 8's on say a 600 watt amp then 4 guage is plenty.

It is not necessary to use expensive brand name power wire. Just make sure you get the gauge you are paying for - many less expensive wire suppliers "cheat" a little on their gauge measurements or use inferior insulation materials. Other than that, wire is pretty much all the same. You can get good performance out of welding cable for a fraction of the price of those fancy name brands.

So I'm looking to replace my JL stealthbox sub with a new sub since the original one was 12 years old and one of the voice coils wires came off.
Anyone have a good price/location for a 10W3 for it?
Thanks.

Op...It depends on the amp you pick. If you're thinking budget and it's probably going to be under 1000 watts 4awg is going to be fine for your wiring (and probably all the amp was made to accept anyway).

Don't even think about a cap ;-) If you install everything and you seem to be having voltage issues we can fix you right up the corrrect way.

dont have a chance to comparison shop, but onlinecarstereo has the amp for $269, since you would want the 4ohm subs, the subs are $169/each, or the dual w3 sealed box wired down to 2ohm final load for $500. you pay a little more for that box than buying a box yourself, but its made for those subs and built to exact spec, so you would get the best sound

It's funny, WhiteBird00 deleted the 'non-sponsor' link, but I'm looking at this thread right now, and the link that was there, is now in the 'AdChoices banner at the bottom of the page. So technically they aren't a board sponsor, but they pay the parent company of ls1tech.com to advertise on their websites.... pretty ironic.

Actually, those banner ads are provided by Google and rotate randomly. We have no control over what businesses get put there.

Why has the site began to have random ads on the page?

Because Google pays for them to be there. This is a business after all.

So indirectly, they are a sponsor, right? If Google is a sponsor, and that company pays Google to advertise, then they are like a 3rd party sponsor right?

I know I'm barking up a tree, but I just think it's funny.

So what sponsors have the JL 10w3 in stock and can get me a price?

I'm suprised no one has said this. Look for Image Dynamics IDQ12's. They're better sounding than the JL's IMO and they're also cheaper. Can't go wrong with them.
