Default V1 Hardwire

I was getting ready to hardwire my V1. But I started reading up about it to make sure I'm doing it right. But now I'm second guessing what I was about to do, I don't think I have the right equipment. What all does it take to hardwire the V1?

For my Viper, I got a Mirror Tap cable (sold by Blendmount.com) that pulls power from the rear view mirror connector...granted, it works because I also use a Blendmount that puts the detector right below the mirror.

Otherwise, you need to use the hardwire adapter - run +12V switched to it (you'll need to ground it too), and from the adapter run a phone cord up to wherever you have the detector. If you don't have the adapter, you can order it straight from Valentine Research.

Crap, I thought it was as easy as hooking up a phone cord to a 12v power source. Looks like I'll be ordering one of these and waiting a few days instead. Time to return the t-taps and phone cord

Another question. Does the direct-wire power adapter from V1 have 2 slots? (1 for radar and 1 for concealed display)

Yes, it does. I ran the concealed display in my Camaro before I sold it.

I got this about half done, but have 2 questions before I choose to proceed further. I'm looking for a good ground, not sure if any bolt down there will do or if one is better than another. Also, I'm doing it by the LS1howto write up, it says the "brown" wire, but there are 2 brown wires. I'm guessing it's the larger of the 2? (btw it's the lighter of the 2)

Any pictures would be appreciated, if you'd like pictures of anything I'm talking about that can be done

If you are looking for a good source for switched +12V, look no further than the driver's side fuse panel:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/14570629-post3.html

As for a ground, just use a ring terminal and put it under one of the nuts holding the steering column brace in place. A ground is a ground is a ground.

Other than the bolt the brace is painted so I wasn't sure how good a connection it would get without scrapping it down.

Good explanation on the fuse box, what's the easiest way to get to the fuse box wires though?

You just use a simple blade terminal, crimp it on the end of a piece of wire, and plug it in to the appropriate slot. Those slots are in the fuse panel specifically for this reason.

And don't worry about the paint...the ground connection will be good enough even without scraping the paint off.

It should take you like 20 min at most, run the wire, use ur remote radio wire, then use ur ground wire there is a few there.

Holy freeking crap! Third times a charm. After you splice the terminal on the wire you just insert the terminal into the ignition area on the fuse block? And it holds there without falling out? I have never done this before, so sorry if it sounds like a stupid question.

Running the flat wire for the blend mount I bought was really easy. Just remove the A-Pillars to get access to the wire bundle running to your mirror, use that as a guide and put the direct power adapter under the dash area.
