Default Power window kill switch

Has anyone had success with wiring up a switch that will kill the window switches?

Got a window tint ticket last year even though my windows were down since I had left my house. I would like to have a kill switch that I can toggle that way I can roll the windows up when parked and kill the switches if pulled over.

I should just be able to wire the switch into the ground for the drivers side switch pack but am not sure.

so your plan is to play dumb, and be like, "but officer, my windows aren't working so I can't roll them up for you to test the tint"?

If the officer knew anything about fbody's he would already know that the windows are normally on the verge of not working!

I am not trying to play dumb, I just do not have the desire to pay a yearly tint tax(ticket) for a law that is designed to protect officer safety. I am not affecting officer safety when driving around with my windows down.

I don't think that will work too well.

What is the legal limit and what do you have?

Are you thinking electrically it wont work well or legally?

Iowa limit for front windows is 70 or 75%

My side windows measured 13% with their tester. Back window is 5% and ttops are about the same as the side windows.

Legally. I doubt they'd fall for it, especially if a cop that has pulled you before for tint pulls you over again.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I see no point in trying to circumvent the laws. You're just asking for more trouble doing that.

Damn that sucks, here in Georgia its 32% and I don't think thats dark enough,
hell at 70% its not worth paying to have it done.

What about the back window, couldn't they still ticket you for the tint on the back window?

the tint testers slide over the edge of the glass, they can't go over the back glass, unless they have one I haven't seen.

it will work. if they cant roll the window up to test they cant test. but you have a positive and neg wire going into the driver door hook one of those up to a relay. but its eather going to drain the power when you have it locked ( cant roll up) or when its unlock. it matters how you hook it up.

does any one know what the window fuse it hooked up to? i have to have my manual in front of me to read the diagram.

your car must not be that bad to get tint tickets. i use to get pulled over when i first got my car for tint. i have 35% and law is 70% or 75%. now when they pull me over they step out of the car and tell me to put my hands on the steering wheel and when they walk up the first thing to come out is WHAT THE HELL DO YOU DO WITH THIS. i tell my DD and give them my insurance. and ask him if they want to search it i have no interior and is completly stripped down. just two seats and a roll cage and maybe 10 wires to make it street legal.

but you could easly get away with a switch or relay to shut the windows down and not get tickets

Personally when it comes to tint, I say keep it legal, driving these cars the cops are already looking for excuses to pull us over, so don't give them a valid one.

In MD we've gone to e-ticket. Every tiem you are pulled over no matter the agency they will be able to see exactly what you have been pulled over for and whether you were giving a warning or ticket. They catch you twice for tint and your getting a ton of fines for modifying it again.

Personally i think the dumb trick your trying to pull won't work. Not to mention if they think your being a *****, they will find a reason to rip the door panel off the car or impound it.

False on all accounts, I'm a mechanic we have an inspector at our shop. The tool used is 2 small boxes, one placed on inside of window, while the other is faced through the window and the reading is taken.

Also, to OP, if your windows don't work and they can't inspect the tint, legally they should not pass your inspection. And a cop that pulls you over and believes your windows "don't work" is an idiot...

The portable tool used by most police is exactly as Daniel said - it is one piece with a slot that slides over the window. What they use in shops is not always practical for LEOs to carry around in their vehicles.

Iowa has no limits for back window tint. Iowa also does not have inspections, so driving around with a vehicle that does not have side windows would be perfectly legal.

I have tried to limit the amount of things that I can be pulled over for, I even put the front plate on as that was his reason for pulling me over to check my windows before. I am a firm believer in that if they want to pull you over there is ALWAYS a reason that can be used.

The officer that ticketed me used the device that has to slide over the glass, it is the kind that does not work for checking windshield glass either.

tt, you mention using a relay over a switch, what was the benefit of this? The relay would drain power, but the switch should not correct?

What he said the cops that tested any car I had tint on had the slide over the edge tool, and in Georgia the only "inspection" you may have to deal with is SMOG and thats only if you live in a county classified as "Metro Atlanta" which covers nearly have the state since its last expansion a few years ago.

Tell me about it, there go to excuse is to accuse you of crossing the center line around here, gotten that twice now, and on one of times I was SIGNALLING a lane change, and the other time was so far the only time i've been hassled in the 8 weeks I've owned my bird where the cop followed me for a couple miles on a 40 MPH road and right before I got out of the city limits he pulled me over saying I crossed the center line in the curve a 1/4 mile back before he hit his lights.

If your window's don't go up, you will get a default ticket because it will be obvious that you are trying to hide the tint or the cop will be annoyed it.
