AUX audio without cracking the HU case?

AUX audio without cracking the HU case? Does anybody just tap right into the 9-pin connector and put
MP3 player audio in directly?
I see this in the FAQ:
C2 - Black 9-pin connector for CD changer
7 - not used
8 - not used
9 - Bare - drain wire
10 - DARK GREEN w/WHITE - right audio signal
11 - BROWN w/WHITE - left audio signal
12 - BLACK w/WHITE - audio return
13 - BLACK - ground
14 - DARK GREEN - power
15 - not used
Which to me looks like 10, 11, 12 is all I want. Solder up
a stereo cable. Is there a reason this doesn't work, like the
"audio signal" is really a digital bit-stream or something?
One issue looks like, that with the 9-pin connector open
the head unit will not enter AUX mode. But there has to be
a way to trick it, I expect. This is probably why the GM9-AUX
is more than three vampire taps in a zip-loc bag.
Does anybody know how to make the Monsoon HU accept
the AUX button-press, with the changer disconnected?
Has anyone disassembled a dead GM9-AUX unit to see just
what is inside?
