There is a third option if you like the output of a ported enclosure but dont want to give up the whole hatch and that is a passive radiator setup. Here is a thread on an SA-8 PR setup, its basically an 11inch cube but performs like a ported enclosure rather than sealed.

Thanks everyone for the help in choosing a sub so far. I haven't had time to get to Sundown Audio and check out their 8" sub yet due to work. I also learned about 10 minutes from where I live the audio shop is a dealer of DD products. When I get time I will stop in there and check out that 8" sub too.
