Default Why would someone hack up the antenna wire?!

So I've always gotten mediocre radio reception, and today while I was poking around behind my radio my dad noticed the antenna wire was covered in black tape. I take the tape off and WTF... the previous owner of my car hacked up the antenna wire! What could possibly be the reason for this?

What would be the best way of going about mending this?

best would be to completely replace the wire, a close second would be to cut out that small portion and find some cable connectors (F-connector) and a barrel and use it to patch it.

these are the parts you need (pictured), the most important thing is to make sure the center core copper line isn't touching any of the wires that are on the outside of the white insulation, also check for kinks in the line and make sure it hasn't vome disconnected from the antenna.

As luck would have it my dad had the perfect connectors to put the wire back together, problem solved!

Or you could just ditch the whole RC Car antenna we have sticking out the back, and replace it with this beauty.
