Distorted sound

Wires what I'm running

JBL 2 channel 180w @ 2 channel @ 4 ohm 290 w @ 2 channel @ 2 ohm

I have JBL 608 GTI component basses. 150w @ 4 ohm

I'm not running the tweeters that came with that kit. I sold those in my old truck.

I bought:

JBL p26T 180w max 60w rms @ 4 ohm

I installed everything. Ran the power through the 608gti crossover. I didn't use the crossover that came with the tweeters that I bought.

I ran 2 pairs of RCA's to both my amps (1 for speaker and 1 for sub)

When I turn the volume up to 22 it's fine sounds great. Then I turn to 23 and it starts studdering and distorting. However, if I turn it back down to 22 and then up the subwoofer output the same thing happens gets distorted.

I'm new to car audio, can someone help?

Any idea anyone. I'm reading about distortion. Maybe the amp wired to it isn't strong enough? It's 180w output and I have the door speakers are 150w and the tweeters are 60w? Maybe they are pulling too much power and the amp can't supply it?

I don't know if this would be it, but is the gain on the amp set properly? Check the manual for your amp to see how they recommend setting it. For most amps, you turn the gain all the way down, set the head unit volume at about 75% & all EQ's to flat, and turn up the gain until you detect distortion. Then turn the gain back down until the distortion goes away. It's best to use a CD for this. This is pretty simplified, a google search will turn up more detailed instructions for how accurately you want to set it.

I did not do this, and it's worth a try. I'll try it later tonight or tomorrow. All my readings and my head hurts lol.

Well I went out to try again last night and now when trying to start it the amps would kick on, click, then shut off. Happened a few times then wouldn't happen again. Also the battery is now stone dead. Damn winter time. Could the battery dying caused all these issues at all?

It might, but I'm not basing that on any electrical knowledge. When I installed my amp in November, I left my stereo playing while I was putting the interior back together. It killed the battery after about 20 minutes of course, and I noticed the sound quality deteriorated significantly when that happened.

Hmmm good answer. I know the distortion began the other day...then the amps clicking and turning on the off right away. Then now the battery dead. Maybe all related hmmm. I have the battery on a tender now. I'm in the same boat....sound deadened the whole interior, putting all back together. Just wanted to test everything before I toss everything in then have to pull it out again
