No big deal... it appears that a previous owner had installed an aftermarket sub, possibly a stealth box. That will not affect changing the head unit or sail panel subs. Just follow the information in the Monsoon FAQ regarding upgrades (i.e. get a harness adapter for the HU and make sure you get the correct type of sub for the sail panels) and you will be fine. Leave the extra wiring as it is and you might be able to use it later if you decide you want to add a sub of your own.

I just caught this and missed it in the OP. Did you know that there is an easy fix for this?

The contacts in the stock volume control get dirty. All you have to do is take the volume **** off, spray in electrical contact cleaner down the shaft, and turn the **** a few times.

I've used a small can of contact cleaner from Radio Shack to fix the problem and its been going years without issue. A better choice may be MAF cleaner, which is very similar but kinder to plastic.

Ok one more quick question is there a way to have an aftermarket head unit and keep the factory monsoon speaker system and also add an aftermarket sub
