Anyone use this to simply put a aftermarket HU in with factory speakers/amp/sub?
For now I just want to be able to use CD's or an Ipod.
So I'm looking for a simple and easy HU swap. I've read that factory speakers are something like 2 Ohm and an aftermarket HU messes with them?

Thanks

The adapter to hookup a new headunit in the 4th-gen f-body is simpler and cheaper than that (basically connector and wires, no control box). Look in the FAQa at the top of this section for all the info you'd need.

I thought a simple harness like that wont work with the factory amp in the Bose system. Ive had to but a similar control box for other cars that had factory amps. I called crutchfield armed with that PN and they confirmed needing it.
We will see.

You didn't say you had the Bose system. Yes it is different and a simple cable is not enough. You'll need one with an inline adapter. However, I don't remember which one. There were some threads on that a while back though.
For clarification the Monsoon setup doesn't need any special adapter (just a cheap straight through cable) since the headunit is a regular headunit and the amp takes in speaker-level outputs from the headunit.

Thank you. Sorry about not specifying the Bose system. I have been out of the car stereo equipemnt game for a while and this is the oldest car I have dealt with modifying the stereo.

Actually, the reason for the adapter in Bose systems really has nothing to do with the impedance of the speakers (which are not 2-ohm... that's a Camaro Monsoon spec). The Camaro Bose system uses a special head unit that outputs low-level, high-impedance signal (basically a headphone signal) to individual amps attached to 1-ohm speakers. But you don't have to worry about the odd 1-ohm speakers unless you decide to replace the factory amps. The adapter is needed to step down the output of the aftermarket head unit to a level that won't cause problems for the Bose amps. At the very least, without the adapter, the volume control would be very touchy and the output volume would ramp up much too quickly because of the higher power signal going to the amps. Worst case, you could blow the amps due to the heat generated by an unfiltered high power input signal. The $30 for the adapter is money well spent to avoid those kinds of issues.

I didn't say the reason was the impedance. Sorry if that was implied. Thanks for the post though (I've seen you post that in a few other threads as well).
