So I finally decided to upgrade the headunit. I went with a kenwood ddx372bt that I got on amazon for $200.
The unit has both the usb and 3.5 aux port in the back of the head unit. Rather than run the cables into my glove box I found this.
This cable was 15 bucks on amazon. I used a hole that was drilled by the police agency that had the car before me. Ran the cables through the console and behind the dash ( which turned out to be quite an easy job actually )

I definitely recommend the double din. Single dins jus dont look right. It was actually really easy to install. I have zero experience with this stuff and it was a piece of cake. If you do decide to do it I'd recommend getting a touch screen. The others just look to tron and aftermarket. Quality brand touchscreens can be had for under 200.
I just bought the metra kit and a sony double din, i'm having trouble getting the dash vents out of the original bezel. any advice? i haven't found anything online and i'm scared of breaking them. Thanks!
The vents just snap on. You can get them off with a flat head screw driver from the back side of the bezel. Slide the screwdriver in between the vent and the bezel and then pry space in between the 2 pieces and push it out. Don't put the screwdriver on the nibs where it actually snaps on. The break easy.

I know this is a bit old, but I thought it would be worth the info for anyone else looking into this HU. How do you like it? I have been looking at that exact one but have heard some issues with screen brightness in sunlight. Have you had any issues with that or any other issues overall with it like bluetooth clarity when your phone is paired?
I have really liked it so far. The only time I have had an issue with screen brightness is on a bright day when the sun is glaring directly at the screen. Even then I could still see it. But that seems to be the case with any touch screen. As far as the blutooth goes. I have only used it for phone calls. It comes with an external mic. And the mic level can be adjusted. It works good if you turn the mic level all the way up and mount the mic in a good location that's facing you. I haven't used the blutooth to listen to music or anything, I have an ipod that lives in my console that stays plugged in all the time.
Hey OP, did you have any issues with that HU fitting into the metra bezel? I ordered that same bezel and i'm trying to fit a Pioneer AVH-X2700BH but the bezel is just a hair too small. It looks like i'll be using a file to sand the edges down to get it to fit. I noticed in your picture that the HU is not flush with the edge of the bezel, just curious if that was by choice or if it was due to the depth/mounting of the HU? Any help would be much appreciated.
Turned out ok. Like you, I did not file down the bezel and left it alone. It's for sure too small for the HU but it's sits perfectly in there and I like how it's tucked back a bit. Seems like it's less likely to get hit by something and still looks like a factory piece. I looked a buddy's double din this morning and it's flush with the console, it just does not look as good. Thanks for your reply, this was the push I needed to just do it.
