Cool Which amp, 50w per channel or 75w per channel.

I am looking at amps to push my 4 Inifinity 6002i speakers which are 60watts RMS each. Which amp would be better, a 50watts x 4 or a 75watts x 4.

Which one shoould I go with?

Thanks for the help.

I'd say go with 75 X 4. However, many amps are underrated and actually put out more than their rated power.

It's always better to overpower them than underpower them.

Assuming all else is equal, that's entirely true. However, quality is priority number one. A good quality 50 watt amp will be 10 times better than a crappy 75 watt amp.

If price isn't a factor, go with the 75 watt amp, if you can't afford a quality 75 watt amp, then buy a quality 50 watt amp.

Well.. I cant fully agree with that.

For instance if you have a sub rated at 125w rms and run a 300w rms amp on it. It could burn the sub up (or push it beyond its limits causing permanent damage to the sub). Of course if you turn the 300w amp down to match the sub then its good.

I try to match everything within specs as close as possible.

Actually very few brands out there rate their amps dynamically meaning how much power they put out across the entire frequency range, i.e. 20 hz to 20khz. Which gives you a true power rating. Most use a single frequency usually 1K for their rating, but your amp doesnt play a 1K all the time.

Guys,

Thanks for all the advice. I ordered the subthump amp rack and when I get it I will see which amps will fit. If they both fit I will probably go with the 75watt x 4 amp so I have headroom incase I upgrade speakers in the future to Kappas.

Thanks,
Tom
