3157 or 3157CK????
It is not necessary to test a socket to determine the type. As you've seen, sometimes a contact will register as ground when not actively in use. You can see the difference just by looking into the socket at the contacts. 3157 sockets have four contacts - one for the bright filament power (turn signal, brake, DRL, etc.), one for the dim filament power (parking/running lights), and two for ground. The ground contacts are connected together so that they share a single wire.
When looking into the socket, a standard socket will have the connected contacts at one end on opposite sides of the slot while a CK socket will have the connected contacts adjacent to each other along one side of the slot.
