Default Corvette Style Cluster Needles Sweep?

I was wondering how easy or complicated it would be to make the gauge needles in my 2002 Pontiac Trans Am to do like they do in a corvette when you start it up. I was always raised around corvettes but I was unable to afford a corvette so I obviously settled for the next best thing. Anyways, I always thought that the sweeping needles when you start a corvette up was awesome! And I'm kinda wanting to do that in my cluster, depending on how difficult it would be. If it's extremely complicated, I probably won't do it but if it's fairly easy, I might tackle it soon.

well if you have a battery thats about to go out you'll get the needle sweep, needle sweep is actually a warning of the battery going out on 4th gen f-bodies. typically firs becomes noticeable after the car sits over night. so you might want to mess with it.

Hmm, alright. I've never had it do that so I had no idea. Probably won't mess with it then.

It's a BCM thing, I don't think it's that easy to do. it's not just the 'vettes that do it. My wife's previous '05 G6 did it, my '14 Sierra does it.

Without being able to program the BCM, you would need to design and program a circuit that would that would feed the gauges the proper voltage to sweep the full range and back down. Then with the 99-02's the oil pressure is the only analog input, the rest is class 2 serial data. Its a cool feature but way way too much work for little gain.

Yeah, it sounds like way too much work. I was just curious. Like I said, I would only do it if it was a simple mod but it's way out of my league and seems kinda wasteful for such a little thing. I can live without it, just trying to compete with my dad, he has an 2008 Corvette, lol.

The BCM on 4th generation f-bodies has nothing to do with the instrument cluster other than managing a few of the warning lights (seat belt, security, etc.). So even if the BCM was programmable, you couldn't affect the gauge needles with it.

On the 99-02's all but the oil pressure and speedo are class 2 serial data though. But your are right, I did wrongly mention the BCM.

Yes, that's correct... that data comes from the PCM not the BCM.
