If you use the power antenna wire, the amp will only turn on when the radio is on. The factory radio supplies 12v to the power antenna through the pink lead only when the radio tuner is on, this raises the power antenna. When turning the radio off, or switching to CD mode, the factory radio cuts the 12v output on the pink wire, and the power antenna goes down. If you wire your amp remote to this, the amp will only turn on when the factory radio tuner is on. once you try to play a cd, the amp will turn off. Use a switched +12v source on the factort harness. I believe there are two yellow wires on the harness, one is a light yellow, and is a rear speaker wire, the other is a brighter yellow, and is +12v when the key is on, or the motor is running. Use a multimeter to find out which wire it is. If you don't have one, then get one at Radioshack, theyre cheap: http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...%5Fid=22%2D810

Actually, no. The power antenna lead on a factory head unit supplies power as long as the head unit is on. It doesn't matter if you're using the radio or the CD - as long as the head unit is on, the pink wire will provide power.

This may be different on aftermarket head units.

Then where does the power antenna motor get the +12v signal to go up and down?

Only if you want the power applied whenever the ignition is on. The yellow wire carries ignition controlled power and has nothing to do with the stereo. What we're telling him is that if he wants power available when, and only when, the stereo is on then he should use the pink wire. Hell, if you just want ignition power then you can run it straight from the fuse box.

The power antenna will go up and stay up as long as it has power. It goes down when the power is cut. It doesn't need any separate signal to control the movement. That's why the antenna goes down after you shut off the car (and open the door). The pink wire at the head unit provides that power as long as the unit is on and cuts it when you turn it off.

Your stock deck must be different than mine. If I turn the car on with a CD in the deck, as I left it when I shut it off, the deck will play the CD, and the power antenna will remain down. Only when the deck is switched to radio mode, does the power antenna extend. If I switch it back to CD, the power antenna retracts.

i have seen some cases where there are two yelow wires in the power plug instead of the pink , most of the time the power antenna trigger will be pink. the best thing to do is the the multimeter which will show the wire in question , the trigger will only show 12v when the head unit is switched on not just the key , i've been doing automotive electronics and electrical since 1984 aqnd up until about 2000 , gm has been pretty consistant in their wiring colors

Well, something's wrong because we both have 2000 T/A's so they should work the same. I will check the service manual when I get home tonight.

OK, according to the service manual, the power antenna retracts only in the following situations:
1. the stereo is turned off
2. the retained accessory power is inactive
3. the ignition is off

Is it possible that your head unit has been replaced from a different year or model? Perhaps it's just not working properly (not that it sounds like a problem).

I dunno, but I remember it was irritating. Anyhow, it's been replaced by a Kenwood. Thanks for the info.
