Default Battery at 8v after 2 weeks of sitting

It's a brand new Optima red top with a sticker date of 7/16. My plan was to test the mA draw then remove fuses one by one to find the problem circuit. But when I tested the draw, it was only 0.09mA. That actually seems kind of low considering all the electronics I have. The car is garaged and the temps haven't been particularly cold lately. Any ideas about what could be killing it?

.09 miliamps or .09 Amps? Cause .09mA is almost impossible. The memory circuit in the radio draws more current than that.

If it's .09A you're looking at 90mA, which is exactly why the battery is dying. 30mA is typical drain on a battery, though you don't want anything higher than 50.

FYI, Don't use a trickle charger on an optima, they don't like to be slow charged over long periods. Store them, when needed top them off with a 12+ amp charger..

Checked again and it says 0.09mA. I'm disconnecting the negative cable and setting my voltmeter to DC mA then touching the probes to the negative terminal and ground wire. Is that right?

I'm using a battery tender Jr. Why not use a trickle charge?

Checked the volts on the battery again after 6 hours of charging and it's at 8.80v. I hope I don't have a dead cell again.

Got a pic of the meter and it's reading?

What does it read if you set the meter to amps and not miliamps?

I exchanged the battery because I had it charging overnight and it was only at 9.6v. Looks like another dead cell. Just replaced the battery in October, had it on my trickle charge from November to the end of February. If this one fails early I'm not giving Optima my business again.

Checked the draw with this new battery, 0.15mA. Also checked with the meter set to amps and it was 0.015A.

That sounds more accurate. You have 15mA of draw, not .15. What kind of meter are you using?

Still though, 15 milliamps is well into what's considered "normal". Not sure what's killing cells in your batteries, unless you had a string of bad ones.

I had the same issue with my optima battery... they've lost my business. I thought I had a drain somewhere too.

It's an Innova 3320 digital multimeter. Based on the recent threads I've read about Optima it sounds like there was a manufacturing change or something that reduced their quality. New battery is working great now we'll see how long it lasts.

Btw congrats on 500 posts

This battery I'm running now is their last chance.
