dash gauges reset when cold at start-up

dash gauges reset when cold at start-up last winter I started to notice that the dash gauges would reset and the trip odometer would reset back to zero when I started up the car from an overnight. There would be no problem with the battery turning the starter or the car starting. Once it got warmer out, the problem disappeared. Now that it's getting colder out, it's starting to happen again. The other morning I turned on ignition and the gauges acted normally. When I turned the key to engage the starter, the car started but the gauges reset again.
My battery is 4-years old, and I'm presuming it's on it's way out. I'm just posting this to confirm that is the case.
