I got the old monsoon out and noticed non factor changes/repairs. Original wire harness had wires spiced to the orange and one yellow/cream that appear to go to the 6cd changer in the vert trunk. also has what appears to be adapter for the antenna (like the 6-8" that are shown for the change to newer HU's. what affect will disconnection have on any other wiring if any. One other ? relates to the passenger door erratic window opperation (stops at half way up) then later finishes.

I have read Whitebird FQ but did not see what i would know to be the answer to my ? The antenna adapter I spoke of was also connected to a small tin box that appears to go to the trunk area. anyone have any thoughts on this ?

The antenna "adapter" sounds like either an antenna booster or possibly an FM modulator used to add auxiliary input through the radio. If it's an antenna booster, it would have a power wire and possibly a ground wire (some will ground through the antenna cable). It's used to boost the signal from the antenna to improve reception but most produce questionable results because they boost noise as well as signal. If it's an auxiliary input adapter, it would have a stereo input jack or a pair of RCA jacks on the little box along with some switches to configure the FM station to use.

The only wires going to the optional CD changer are in the separate 9-pin flat connector plugged in at the back corner of the head unit and there are no orange or yellow wires there. There are orange and yellow wires next to each other in the black half of the main head unit connector. They carry battery and ignition-switched power respectively. It sounds like someone tapped into them to power some accessory - you'd have to trace the wires to find out what that was.

The factory antenna is smaller than the standard, so you need and adapter to get the larger size for aftermarket decks. No clue on the cd wiring or the tin box part.

The pass window needs a new window motor. There is a bi-metal strip in the motor that cuts it off normally when it gets full up or down. That gets old and starts to open the circuit with less load until it does it trying to get the window up.

Thumbs up Thanks Whitebird

Those wires spliced invto the orange and yellow of the camaro harness did go to the cd changer. A Sony CDX-540RF I am thinking replacement for stock as the harness for the oem was plugged into the monsoon. The Antenna "box" was also connected to the cd changer. So all that came out. FYI.

So someone added an aftermarket CD changer which the factory head unit couldn't control (it only works with the factory changer made by Pioneer) which meant they had to add wiring and an FM modulator to get it to work. Interesting configuration.
