The part was Metra #70-2029 but it has long been discontinued. A search turns up lots of listings but when you look at them they say "out of stock" or "discontinued". You might get lucky and find one that still has old stock or you might find one on ebay.

Whitebird, what is your opinion on twisted pair speaker wire and RCAs? I understand twisting in network cables, but is there that much intereference in a 20 yr old car?

No, the difference between twisted pair and shielded coaxial (RCA) is measurable but not significant enough to be audible in such a (relatively) short run unless you run your wire right next to unshielded wires that could cause magnetic interference. As long as you follow the best practice of keeping your power and audio wire runs separated, either one will do an admirable job. Buy whichever one is most affordable... there is no truth to the story that specialty wiring (like Monster) is better than basic wiring. Only buy the fancy stuff if it's exposed and you want to show it off. Otherwise, basic Amazon wire and similar brands will work just as well.

Can I check the polarity of speaker wires with a miltimeter? It wouldn't be that much of a pain to pop the HU out, but DMM would be eaiser.

Not really. Audio signal is alternating current so unlike DC where you have separate power and ground, both wires would show varying voltage. You could do it with an oscilloscope but that's not practical. If it was the factory wiring you could just go by wire colors. With your own wiring you'll just have to confirm that the polarity at the source end matches that at the speaker end. From a standard aftermarket head unit, the front speakers would be the white wires (left) and the grey wires (right)... the plain wire of each pair is positive and the black stripe wire is negative.

since the OScopes at work are full size bench style, pulling the radio is abour 99.999% better idea. Lol.

I have an Alpine head unit booster amp that I was going to try, so I might as well put that in since I need to check the speaker wires.

Finished the doors up, and the bass response from the speakers is significantly better.

I am thinking that there is zero benefit to putting the deadener on the roof, since I have t-tops.

Has anyone else done this, I bought a small amount of sound deadening material, not sure if I should put it in the doors, sail panels, or behind the stealth box that will be installed on the driver side near the t top holder?

I think there is a huge benefit to sound deadening, but I installed it on the entire car and have a hard top.

I know a 2.75" deep speaker will fit. That's deeper than most 6.5" midrange speakers on the market.

Pioneer TS-M650PRO touched the body of the car. I had to buy some wood spacers.

That speaker is 3.125" deep so it's no wonder it was a little too deep. Besides, it's a mid-bass more suited to the sail panels than the doors.

they actually work well in the doors, after I put sound deadener on. I am a bit disappointed in their performance in the sails
