Default Waterproof speaker protection

Waterproof speaker protection

Recently found out that the inside of the 4th gen F-bodies door gets wet.

since I'm still adjusting the window mines probably getting extra wet

Do you Guy’s protect these door speakers w/ a water proof cover? doe's the rear and front get wet must yes thats why gm puts a raincoat on inside on cover.

if yes is sound quality effected?

maybe this

additionally I like to continue using the dinomat but I’d have to butcher them to fit inside the tiny inclosure.

I made my old enclosure out of fiberglass & MFD the MFD got wet and ruined the fake wood.before moisture sounded twice as good compared just the door.

edit: I'm getting good at fabbing aluimin will a metal enclosure effect sound quaility negatively?
advice if you feel like it.

All doors get water in them. That's why OEM's install a shield/guard over the top of the speaker. If you look at the stock speaker frame/bracket, you can see that the top half is a sold curved plastic and not open or slotted/ribbed like the rest. It's a splash guard. It doesn't need to be sealed / waterproof.

yes I understand the OEM shield acts like a raincoat I was wanting protection from condensation. or doe's condensation appear wherever it wants even inside the enclosure?

also expect better SQ eliminating the doors resonance.

Thanks for advice

As for making an enclosure for the speaker for sound quality, that depends on the required volume on the speaker's spec sheet.

That’s way over my head on specs.

Here’s the component speakers I have they where expensive back when I got them 17+ years ago got a deal on them as they where being reengineered.

Alpine SPX-17MB instruction manual and user guide

https://mans.io/item/Alpine/SPX-17MB

after paying almost $250. I was shocked at how crummy they sounded just inside the door in regular OEM open holder.

I found out later these are a compotesion type speaker for folks who like to blast the speakers so everyone in the same zip code could hear.

That’s not me I want SQ not ear bleeding loudness.

that’s the reason I built the fiberglass and MDF enclosure, Alpine encouraged me to build the enclosure because of the type speaker it was. it was like day and night difference of improvement, not as good as the $600. pair of Memphis that I really liked that where demoed in the store. I cheaped out on the Memphis because the salesman/store owner wouldn’t show me the PN or the amp that was driving them I think the amp was very powerfull or by-amped.

He thought yeah demo here and purchase on the net for ½ off.

I thought I was getting a extra good deal on the alpines, how can you go wrong w/ a excellent radio co. I never demoed them kindof had made my mind up that you can really only demo inside the car not the store.

So SQ snowballed to the dino mat and covering the door outer part in roofing tape. sorry big text the reviews lead you to believe these are SQ type speakers.

Thanks
